Gamma-Polyglutamic Acid (γ-PGA) is a natural, multi-functional, biodegradable biopolymer produced from L-glutamic acid through a fermentation process with a Bacillus subtilis. PGA is a water-soluble homo-polyamide consisting of D-glutamic acid and L-glutamic acid monomers connected by amide linkages between α-amino and γ-carboxyl groups. It has a good water absorbability, a long-lasting moisturizing effect and inhibition on melanin biosynthesis.
APPLICATIONS
γ-PGA is a major constituent of the Japanese food natto. It has a wide number of potential uses ranging from food, medicine and water treatment. When applied in cosmetic products, the moisturizing effect of γ-PGA is better than that of hyaluronic acid and collagen protein; it can supply moisture to help the skin against a dry environment for a long period of time, also can restore skin elasticity and smooth skin wrinkles
- Improves skin elasticity
- Promotes the skins natural moisturising properties
- Maintains skin pH
- Reduces transepidermal water loss
- Excellent skin hydration
- Can enhance the growth of fibroblasts, promote the synthesis of collagen protein
- Has whitening effects
- Penetrates better than HA
- Can inhibit the activity of hyaluronidase, stabilise HA levels
